HONORS SEMINAR I: INTRODUCTION TO CRITICAL THINKING
COURSE GOALS:
Students will understand the application of the terms "critical thinking" and "metacognition."
Students will refine their writing and editing skills for an authentic audience.
Students will passionately pursue a self-selected topic of interest.
Students will think long-term about their goals and outcomes.
COURSE OBJECTIVE:
By the end of Honors Seminar I, 100% of students will have successfully been introduced to the foundational concepts of critical thinking and metacognition and will have completed a personal interest project.
INSTRUCTIONAL GOALS:
The student will be familiar with the Edublogs format, will understand internet privacy concerns.
The student will develop the habits to become successful high school students.
INSTRUCTIONAL OBJECTIVES:
By the end of the course, the student will produce an interdisciplinary project with Scholars Biology based on the summer reading and demonstrate proficiency in Edublogs.
By the end of the course, the student will produce a self-guided project based on a topic of personal interest.
In Honors Seminar I, Scholars will be introduced to the cohort methodology, as well as what it means to think like a Scholar. They will become familiar with the terms "critical thinking" and "metacognition" in new ways and applications, as well as learning to manage time through project-based learning throughout the semester. Students will be responsible for four major projects: the summer book project which has both independent and group components, a personality project, an interdisciplinary project with Scholars Biology, and a Passion Project, which is self-directed on the topic of the Scholar's choice with instructor guidance.
